The first reaction
of most of us when format the external hard disk accidentally may be unformat
it. But I have not heard the unformat tool yet. It does not mean we will lose
those files forever. Though there is no unformat too, we can access those lost
contents by restoring them. Yes, it is true that we can recover the data form the
formatted external hard disk. What’s more, it is not sophisticated. Here is an example of my students who format his
external hard disk by mistake.
Dear teacher, could you kindly help me? I formatted
the external hard disk by error last night, but the tasks remind to be done was
saved on it and I have no backup. Is there any way for me to get those lost

I have helped him
to retrieve what he need from his Seagate external hard disk. Here are the steps I told him to do as follows:
Step1. Download and launch the data recovery software on the computer.
Step2. Insert the
formatted external hard disk to the same computer.
Step3. Double
click the data restoration program to start it, and then choose the recovery
model and target disk to scan.
Step4. After the
scan, preview the contents in the list, which are the recoverable files. Then
pick up the needed to recover.
Step5. Select one
of the computer hard disks as the location to store files to be retrieved.
The reason to save
them on one of the computer hard disks but not the formatted external hard disk
is to avoid the overwriting event.
Except from the
Seagate external hard disk, we also can restore files from the external hard disk
come from other brands after being formatted with the help of data recovery
tool. For example, the WD external hard disk, ADATA external hard disk, HGST
external hard disk, and so on.
